Building on a Tradition

If you spent time on the Pinellas Beaches in the 1980s, you knew about Silas Dent’s Steakhouse. Opening in 1979, Silas Dent’s was run by Rob Stambaugh and named for one of the area’s most famous recluses, Silas Dent, who settled in Tierra Verde in the early 1900s.

Silas Dent’s offered terrific surf  ‘n’ turf meals, set amid a distinctively Old Florida décor, and was known county-wide as the place to be for late-night music and socializing.

Ah, but times change, and so, too, do the favorite haunts of families and partiers. Silas Dent’s changed, too.

In August 2018, the restaurant was acquired by the owners of Caddy’s on the Beach, and the transformation began.

Caddy’s retro-fitted the restaurant, turning it into a boat-up destination called Caddy’s St. Pete.

Today, the 39-year tradition that began at 5501 Gulf Blvd. on St. Pete Beach is Bayside Banquets & Silas Catering, and the once busy night spot is now a sought-after venue for corporate events, weddings, and memorable gatherings of friends.

This month, Bayside Banquets & Silas Catering is the setting for the Chamber’s monthly After Hours Mixer on Thursday, October 24. In addition to some great socializing, attendees will get a first-hand glimpse at a top-notch banquet facility!
