sport kite competitionThe 22nd Annual Treasure Island Sport Kite Competition and Festival returns January 19 and 20, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, behind the host hotel, the Thunderbird Beach Resort.

Windworks and the Eastern League Sport Kite Association sponsor this popular sport kite competition and are now gathering competitors from around the U.S. to perform on Treasure Island Beach during the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday weekend. They expect a large crowd of spectators who will be amazed by the talented kite flyers performing to music at this two-day event in dual-line and multi-line sport kite competition in a wide array of disciplines.

Popular Features in Sport Kite Competition

As in previous years, TISKC (Treasure Island Sport Kite Competition) will be offering Team Multiline Precision and Ballet. Given the growing popularity of Group Multiline flying, this event will be spectacular. TISKC will also be offering a novice class competition for multi-line precision and ballet. For those who haven’t participated in a multi-line competition, this is an excellent opportunity!

Individual precision events for Experienced and Masters Classes will be run according to program precision (formerly “league-style”) rules. This format is audience friendly and allows for a speedier running of the competitions.

Windworks will holding daily and hourly raffles in the kite tent all weekend. Prism Kites and Revolution Kites will provide passersby a chance to learn how to fly stunt kites at no charge. There will be plenty of time to socialize and spend time with the family on one of the best kite flying beaches in the country as large show kites and giant bubbles paint the backdrop for an exciting competition. Who knows? Candy might even fall from the sky! Weather and wind permitting, there may be a night fly in the same fabulous location.

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Since Monday, January 21, is a holiday, festival goers can plan on staying an extra day for recreational flying. January weather in Florida is usually ideal for kites, with mild temperatures and steady winds. Take full advantage of this opportunity to fly on white sandy beaches while many parts of the country will be covered in white stuff of a different kind!

This event is sanctioned by the Eastern League Sport Kite Association. Competing here will qualify kiters for Eastern League points, provided they belong to the League before competing.
